Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views the year not just as four seasons, but as five distinct energetic phases, each linked to specific organ systems, emotions, and patterns in the body. As the seasons change, so do our internal needs. When we move in harmony with these cycles, we feel more balanced, resilient, and energized. When we don’t, symptoms often begin to surface.
Understanding how each season influences the body can help you recognize imbalances early and support your health more intentionally throughout the year.
- Spring (Liver & Gallbladder): Growth, movement, and renewal. Common issues include stress, tension, headaches, and hormonal imbalance.
- Summer (Heart & Small Intestine): Joy, activity, and connection. Imbalances may show up as anxiety, poor sleep, or feeling scattered.
- Late Summer (Spleen & Stomach): Digestion and grounding. Fatigue, bloating, and brain fog are common signs of imbalance.
- Fall (Lung & Large Intestine): Immunity and letting go. This season often brings allergies, colds, or grief.
- Winter (Kidney & Bladder): Rest and restoration. Low energy, burnout, and chronic pain may surface when reserves are depleted.
